Woven Jacquard Fabric Sampling Cost & Small-Order Surcharge Guide
This page explains common sampling fees, small-order surcharges, surcharge allocation methods, and development risk assessment for woven jacquard fabrics. Final costs should be confirmed according to actual fabric construction, color quantity, sampling requirements, order meters, and production feasibility.
Cost Explanation Scope
Woven jacquard fabric development and small-order production are affected by pattern complexity, yarn construction, number of colors, target GSM, finishing requirements, and actual order quantity.
These fees are mainly related to yarn preparation, yarn dyeing, drawing-in, loom setup, pattern adjustment, and small-batch sampling preparation.
These surcharges are used to allocate fixed costs in low-meter production, such as loom setup, machine adjustment, dyeing, finishing, wastage, and production preparation.
1. Piece-dyed Jacquard Fabric Development Fees
Piece-dyed Small Jacquard Development
For piece-dyed small jacquard fabric, the common development fee is USD 280 / pattern, plus the actual fabric cost. If a specific dyed color is required, an additional USD 120 / color may apply. The usual development quantity is around 50 to 100 meters, depending on the fabric structure and sampling requirement.
| Item | Reference Fee | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Piece-dyed small jacquard development fee | USD 280 / pattern | Actual fabric cost is calculated separately |
| Specific dyed color surcharge | USD 120 / color | Applies when buyers require a specific dyed color |
| Typical development quantity | 50 - 100 meters | Final quantity depends on pattern and production requirements |
Piece-dyed Large Jacquard Development
For piece-dyed large jacquard fabric, the development fee depends on the warp yarn type. If there is only one warp yarn type, the development fee is usually USD 150 / pattern. If there are two or more warp yarn types, the development fee is usually USD 280 / pattern. If a specific dyed color is required, an additional USD 120 / color may apply.
| Situation | Reference Fee | Typical Development Quantity |
|---|---|---|
| Large jacquard with 1 warp yarn type | USD 150 / pattern | Usually starting from 5 meters |
| Large jacquard with 2 or more warp yarn types | USD 280 / pattern, plus actual fabric cost | Usually 30 - 100 meters |
| Specific dyed color | USD 120 / color | If any color is acceptable, this surcharge may not apply |
2. Yarn-dyed Jacquard Fabric Development Fees
For yarn-dyed jacquard fabric, colored yarns need to be dyed first before drawing-in, loom setup, and sampling adjustment. Therefore, if a fabric contains multiple colors, each color may create additional yarn dyeing and preparation costs.
Yarn-dyed Small Jacquard Development
| Item | Fee |
|---|---|
| Yarn-dyed small jacquard development fee | USD 280 / pattern |
| Color surcharge | USD 50 × number of colors |
Example: if a yarn-dyed small jacquard fabric has 3 colors:
Yarn-dyed Large Jacquard Development
| Item | Fee |
|---|---|
| Yarn-dyed large jacquard development fee | USD 560 / pattern |
| Color surcharge | USD 50 × number of colors |
Example: if a yarn-dyed large jacquard fabric has 4 colors:
Yarn-dyed large jacquard fabric usually involves more complex pattern design, fabric construction, yarn arrangement, and loom setup, so the development fee is higher than ordinary small jacquard or simple constructions.
3. Small-order Surcharge Notes
For some orders, if the order quantity is below the regular production quantity, a small-order surcharge may apply. This surcharge is used to allocate fixed costs in small-batch production, such as loom setup, machine adjustment, dyeing, finishing, wastage, and production preparation.
Below 5,000 meters / pattern
| Situation | Surcharge |
|---|---|
| Small jacquard below 5,000 meters / pattern | Approx. USD 280 / pattern |
| Large jacquard with 1 warp yarn type | Approx. USD 120 / pattern |
| Warp yarn types ≥ 2 | Approx. USD 280 / pattern |
Below 1,000 meters / color
| Situation | Surcharge |
|---|---|
| Single color below 1,000 meters / color | Approx. USD 120 / color |
How is the small-order surcharge allocated to the unit price?
The small-order surcharge is usually allocated to the unit price according to the actual order meters.
Example: if the pattern surcharge is USD 280 and the actual order quantity is 1,000 meters:
This surcharge does not always need to be charged separately. Depending on the order situation, it can also be allocated back into the per-meter fabric price. The final method should be confirmed according to order quantity, fabric construction, and buyer requirements.
4. When Should the Cost Be Reconfirmed?
- The buyer wants to adjust the composition, such as changing from cotton to viscose, Tencel, or blended yarns
- The buyer wants to adjust the GSM
- The buyer wants to change the pattern scale or pattern proportion
- The buyer wants to change the number of colors
- The buyer requires special finishing
- The order quantity is below the regular production quantity
- The buyer wants to develop a similar fabric based on a photo or original sample
5. Development Risk Assessment Before Sampling
Before sampling or placing a bulk order, we can use over 20 years of real woven jacquard manufacturing experience to help fabric buyers evaluate development and production risks in advance.
Based on fabric photos, original samples, target composition, GSM, hand feel, width, number of colors, garment application, and estimated order quantity, we can help assess:
- Whether the pattern construction is suitable for weaving
- Whether special drawing-in or loom setup is required
- Whether the target GSM and hand feel are reasonable
- Whether the number of colors will increase yarn dyeing or preparation costs
- Whether composition adjustment may affect shrinkage, dyeing, drape, and cost
- Whether small-order quantity may create additional surcharges
- Whether sampling and bulk production may have differences in hand feel, weight, pattern clarity, or finishing
6. What Information Should Buyers Provide?
To evaluate sampling fees, development costs, and fabric pricing more accurately, please provide as much of the following information as possible:
- Fabric photo or original sample
- Target composition
- Target GSM
- Width requirement
- Pattern size or pattern scale
- Number of colors
- Hand-feel requirement
- Finishing requirement
- Estimated order quantity
- Garment application
The more complete the information, the more accurate the cost evaluation and quotation can be.
7. Important Notes
The above fees are common reference notes and do not apply to every fabric in the same way. Actual costs can be affected by fabric construction, yarn price, dyeing requirements, sampling difficulty, finishing method, and order quantity.
